Our family lived in Pistoia, Italy for 3 months and we ate so much delicious food. Below I share some of our favorite restaurants in town!
If you’re looking for a cafe that feels like a warm hug, Caffè La Corte is the spot. The owners are incredibly kind, making every visit feel personal, the food is absolutely delicious, and the charming, cozy atmosphere makes it a place you’ll never want to leave. It’s a must-visit for breakfast or lunch!
The menu changes daily (typically 4-5 lunch options). Pasta is made in house. Everything is so fresh.
The owner also makes delicious cakes and baked goods every morning.
They also have an adorable courtyard.
This restaurant is a true dining experience. They have a garden and greenhouse on site. All their food is fresh and local.
My husband enjoyed the octopus pasta dish. The pasta was cooked in red wine. It was amazing!

Taverna Gargantua is a great place for lunch, aperitivo, or dinner. Here you can find the quintessential Tuscan dish: Bistecca alla Fiorentina. This is a RARE, thick cut T-bone steak (don’t ask for it to be cooked any other way).
Be sure to try the ‘coccole fritte’ which are fried dough balls that you can top with cured meat and cheese. Stracciatella di burrata is my favorite cheese to eat these with. They make a nice appetizer or snack for aperitivo.
Below is a picture of their Pappa al Pomodoro (thick tomato bread soup) topped with some Stracciatella. Beautiful.
Also, all of their pasta is made fresh!
Fratelli is the best pizza restaurant in Pistoia (in our opinion). You can get a pizza with a whole ball of burrata on top! So delicious!
They also have pasta dishes and a few other items on their menu and a nice selection of wine and beer.
This is a smaller restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining. I highly recommend trying a pinsa which is a style of pizza dough that is pressed by hand. It is typically fermented for longer than a traditional pizza dough and it is usually a light and airy crust.
Locanda del Capitano is a great place to try the local cuisine. They don’t speak much English here, so be sure to learn some basic Italian phrases needed in a restaurant. And use your Google Translate if needed!
Aloha Poke was our favorite place to order from when we got sick of eating pasta and pizza. We typically just ordered delivery but they also have a nice place to dine at. We ordered delivery using Deliveroo.
Pizza Dilly is nothing fancy, but I still crave this pizza all the time. It’s pizza on some beautiful focaccia that they cut into squares and warm back up when you order. They have multiple options to choose from. It’s a must try!
SanTinello is a great spot to sit outside in a beautiful piazza and enjoy a nice spritz.
