The Best Gelato Shops in Pistoia, Italy

I lived in Pistoia for 3 months with my husband and 2 kids. Indeed, we tried just about every gelato shop in town. Below is a list of the best gelato shops in Pistoia, Italy!

1. Gelateria Monterosa

Gelateria Monterosa has not only incredible gelato, but also the friendliest workers. They were so kind and patient with us as we tried to practice our broken Italian. They also spoke English which was helpful.

Even though this is the furthest from the city center (about a 30 minute walk), the reward is worthwhile.

2. Una Mole di Gelato

Una Mole di Gelato is a cute little gelato shop is located right in the city center with delicious gelato. Also, the workers are so kind and friendly. After living in Pistoia for 3 months, the owner gave us a parting gift of a little bib for our kids. So sweet!

The flavors are fairly limited, but this is a good thing! You want fresh gelato, not several day old gelato.

Also, Una Mole di Gelato also serves Affogatos. If you have never had one of these, YOU MUST! It is a scoop of gelato ‘drowned’ in espresso. It is the perfect afternoon pick me up!

3. Gelateria Nonna Lucia

Gelateria Nonna Lucia did not have as friendly service (or at least not to tourists), however the gelato is soooo good! Nevertheless , just smile and do your best to order in Italian. It’s worth it!

Furthermore, I should note that this is about a 20 minute walk from the city center.

Overall, there are so many great gelato shops in Pistoia. You really can’t go wrong! Just avoid any ‘fake’ gelato shops. For example, shops with mounds of gelato (going higher than the container it is in) or super bright colors. In fact, mint gelato should not be green! And Banana should not be bright yellow. You want gelato made from real ingredients, not some packet.

Buon appetito!
